A sense of place
We live and work on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, whose mad, fossil-rich beauty steals our breath away. Our love of this place and its flora and fauna shapes our lives, our approach to our brews and the business we run. Our landscape is rich with possibility: locally grown hay, strawberries, rosemary or honey; seaweed foraged from our beach, rye bread from our friend’s bakery – inspiration comes from all around us. Each beer we produce has something of this wonderful place about it.
Why should wine get all the good gigs?
We want to create beers that are happy bedfellows with foods from around the world. Whether it’s experimenting with a little-known spice or picking something from our garden to bring another dimension to a brew, we love the alchemy that ingredients bring to our table and their power to transport us anywhere, through even the smallest sip.
Adventures in beer
Though today it's run by Rob, Tomos & Lilford was begun in 2013, by Rolant Tomos and brothers, Rob and Jim Lilford.
We came about through a love of brewing beer that evoked feelings of convivial, happy times in our lives. Family gatherings with the unmistakeable, warm smell of Dad’s kitchen home brew; the wild plants we’d crush underfoot on big Sunday walks; trips to far-off lands that filled our senses with unexpected fragrance and flavours we’d never experienced before.
We started up in a shipping container held together with crocodile clips and a lot of love. Today the love remains, but we’re an eight-barrel outfit supplying retailers of all shapes and sizes, restaurants, bars and festivals throughout the UK. We brew the signature beers for some of Wales’s most loved places and people including Wrights Food Emporium, the Scarlets rugby team and St Fagan’s, the National Museum of History.
To us, beer tells a story, tugs our heartstrings a little. That’s really what we’re about. We want you to sit down and take a sip and be transported somewhere surprising. Somewhere that brings a smile to your face.
